Remembering Howard Zinn
By Josh Brolin
It was a year this past January 27th that my friend, Howard Zinn, passed away in Santa Monica, California. He had sent me an email about meeting up the next day. The next day came and, alone in this recently acquired No Man’s Land of his death, it hit me that I would never see Howard again.
I had a good friend call me that night in a panic, "I don’t know what to do. What are we going to do? What are we supposed to do with this?" as if Howard was never supposed to die, ever.
The impact that Howard Zinn has had on the world of fair, conscientious people is profound, and the impact that he had as a friend will be forever felt by me and by all those that knew him with the deepest, most visceral tickle imaginable. He was mischievous, fun, childlike, and an appreciator of all things beautiful. My wife was so smitten with him and he knew, in that classy old-school way, how to sustain it. We had spoken about women and how we both felt that they are, ultimately, the keepers of all things...

Howard Zinn- Friend and Badass
By Chris Moore
Well, if you are reading this, you have found your way to ThePeopleSpeak.com website. I hope you have seen the movie. It is worth the time. My name is Chris Moore and, if you clicked on my blog, I am hoping you know who I am, but just in case I will introduce myself here. I am one of the Executive Producers, along with Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, Anthony Arnove, and Howard Zinn, of The People Speak. I am also one of the directors of the movie with Howard Zinn and Anthony Arnove. I have spent the bulk of my career happily in Hollywood producing movies. You are online, so you can look me up, but my highlights are Project Greenlight, Good Will Hunting, and American Pie. Not necessarily political or cultural or artistic pursuits. I really thought I was going to live out my days entertaining people through movies and TV. However, I met Howard Zinn while we were promoting Good Will Hunting. He was an old friend of Matt Damon's and he was a badass.
We had a scene about his book A...

Inspiring Rebel Voices
By Anthony Arnove
Working on The People Speak the past few years, there were a few moments when we weren't quite sure how we'd make it on television and into the world of commercial DVDs. We had the usual challenges facing independent films -- the budget, distribution, getting the word out. But once we started the first day of filming in front of a live audience at the Emerson Cutler Majestic Theatre in Boston, somehow we knew we'd find a way. All of us working on the film had a collective sense of purpose that we had an important story to tell and had landed on a way to tell it that was compelling and inspiring. One of Howard Zinn's many remarkable qualities was his determination, his confidence in the face of challenges. In his life of political activism, he had faced and overcome far greater ones than making a film. And Howard's joy in the process, his commitment to his vision, was infectious for everyone who came in contact with The People Speak.
The second day in Boston, Howard talked about the...
